Holiness is setting a greater standard than that of the flesh or the world.

Here we see that God desires for men and women to develop relationships leading to marriage. : Because we will likely live with a mate in marriage and within a community around us, God wants us to learn how to live in harmony with others.
Have faith and love, and enjoy the companionship of those who love the Lord and have pure hearts." It is unwise to date someone who doesn't love God. How can a Christian be a partner with one who doesn't believe?
The gospel of Jesus Christ brings together people of diverse backgrounds and personalities, increasing the possibility for strained relationships. We have Paul, a scholarly, zealous Jew and former Pharisee; Philemon, a wealthy Gentile businessman; and, Onesimus, a runaway slave.
Any time you bring together people from such varied backgrounds, you have the potential either for great conflict or great glory. 321-322) writes that two or three years before Paul wrote to Philemon, a slave had killed his master, a Roman senator.
