(Hope this is the correct forum for this - if not, please be gentle and let me know) Most basic question: Can my current hardware be made to work as it once did?
I have a Panasonic DMR-EH50, and I believe the is working perfectly.
Instead of being a subsystem, like it was on other brand TVGOS recorders, in the Pioneers it is installed on the boot blocks of the HDD and the entire machine depends on it.
When the hard drive corrupts, it often also corrupts the firmware on the motherboard which depends on TVGOS operating properly.

I'm hoping it was a glitch with the update procedure.
New submitter Jack Greenbaum writes: In 2012 Sony closed the developer site for the DASH, their version of the Chumby platform.
Sony never officially killed off the product, and they kept the back end servers on line, until recently at least.
ATI later partnered with Titan TV to provide its digital ATSC cards. It is a horrible, convoluted mess to sort out when the hard drive fails: there is a LOT more to repairing the TVGOS units than simply putting in a new hard drive. You need the special service remote and service disc, which Pioneer USA does not sell but are sometimes available from Pioneer Canada for a total of 5-150. It used the analog stations data stream to get the guide data so when analog went offline so did TV Guide On Screen for my set.Mitsubishi has released a slew of firmware updates but I never bothered getting any from their service folks before but I wanted this one that was supposed to get the information from ATSC channels.
